Odisha government today asked all the district collectors to report on the crop loss due to low pressure induced unseasonal heavy rains.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P K Mohapatra, in separate letters to the collectors, sought detailed reports on the extent of damage to the summer paddy crops and seasonal vegetables in their respective districts.

The state government will determine financial assistance to be given to the affected farmers on the basis of the reports, the SRC said in the letter.

There were reports on damage of paddy crop and vegetables due to three-day continuous rainfall from May 26.

The SRC office received reports of massive crop loss in the districts of Kalahandi, Balangir, Balasore, Rayagada, Koraput and Sambalpur.

Newly appointed agriculture minister Pradip Maharathy accompanied by agriculture director and other senior officers rushed to Kalahandi district to take stock of the situation created following unseasonal rains.
