The Odisha government on Wednesday reduced bus fares across categories following a fall in price of diesel.

According to a notification issued by the State Transport Commissioner, the fares have been slashed under the automatic fare revision mechanism.

The fare for ordinary and express buses has been cut by 2 paise per kilometre, while for deluxe and AC deluxe buses, it has been slashed by 4 paise per km.

The passengers travelling in the ordinary buses will now have to pay 68 paise per km as against 70 paise per km earlier. Similarly, the fare will cost 71 paise per km in express buses against the earlier price of 73 paise per km.

The deluxe category buses will charge 97 paise per km as against Rs 1.01 earlier, while the AC Deluxe buses will charge Rs 1.19 instead of the current Rs 1.23 per km.

This is the second reduction in bus fares by the state government in the last 15 days.
