Odisha govt takes measures to protect paddy from rain

With possibilities of rainfall due to low pressure over south Andaman sea and its neighbourhood, the Odisha govenrment today asked revenue divisional commissioners (RDCs) and collectors of all districts to protect paddy crop.

"Farmers may be advised through field functionaries to keep their harvested paddy under cover in a safe place so as to avoid any loss/ damage due to rain," the letter of the deputy relief commissioner to district collectors said.

Necessary measures may also be taken to protect the paddy in mandies, if any, the letter said adding that under the infleunce of the low pressure rain/thunder shower is likely to occur in most parts of the state during Novermber 2 and November 5. Heavy rainfail is also likely in some parts of the coastal areas, it said.
 

Meanwhile, the IMD cautioned fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
