Odisha Guv advocates protecting values of tribal society

Noting that the age-old tribal culture faces onslaught of modern civilisation, Odisha Governor SC Jamir today said the values of tribal societies need to be protected, preserved and promoted.

Jamir said this while participating in an interactive programme at Raj Bhavan where he mingled with the artisans of Odisha, Maharashtra, Kerala and Manipur, participating in National Tribal Craft Mela-2016 here.

The Odisha Governor took keen interest in their art work and craft.

Ornaments, Head gears, traditional dresses, basketry and Nungpi pottery of Manipur, worli painting, Gondi painting, tribal healers and wooden craft of Maharashtra, grass handicraft, pottery, bamboo craft of Kerala, jewellery, textile, dhokra, paper mache, beadwork, paddy craft, tribal glass painting and other artefacts of Odisha were on display at the Mela.
