Odisha HC lawyers stay away from work

Lawyers of Orissa High Court here stayed away from courts from this afternoon in protest against Tuesday's brutal murder of a Boudh-based advocate and alleged police inaction in nabbing the culprit.

Following a requisition from Boudh civil and criminal court bar association, the Orissa High Court Bar Association in an extraordinary emergent meeting decided to abstain from court activities for the remaining hours of the day and observe protest day tomorrow.

Other bar associations of the state have been requested to also observe the protest by staying away from court activities tomorrow, said a resolution passed by the apex body of lawyers in the State.
 

Hemant Sahu, a criminal advocate of the tribal district was brutally murdered by some unidentified persons of Tuesday.

Although, the motive behind the murder is not yet ascertained, lawyers here believe that Sahu was a victim of the rival gang of his client and called for lawyers' protection laws.
