The Odisha government today said it has invited the US-based Alcor Inc and engineering major L&T Construction Company to discuss their proposals for setting up a helicopter manufacturing and assembly unit.
The government has sent letters to both the companies for discussion on the proposed project in third and fourth week of April, state Industries minister Debi Prasad Mishra informed the Assembly.
Stating that Alcor Inc's proposal for setting up manufacturing and assembly unit for helicopters was received in August, 2014, the minister said a high-level meeting on the matter held on November 22, 2014.

Taking Alcor's proposal into consideration, the state-owned Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited has been told to prepare a detailed project report, the minister said, adding L&T Construction Company has also submitted a similar proposal.
According to the proposal, Alcor, a maker of precision aviation products, was keen on investing Rs 15,000 crore in Odisha on a manufacturing and assembly unit for helicopters.
The proposed project would provide employment for about 5,000 people in seven years. If implemented, it would be the first such helicopter manufacturing facility in Odisha.
In the public sector, Hindustan Aeronautics LTD (HAL) has already set up an MIG engine manufacturing unit at Sunabeda in Odisha's Koraput district.
