Odisha Minister arrives, announces solatium

Odisha minister for Steel, Mines and Labour, Prafulla Kumar Mallik, today said Rs 5 lakh each would be given to the next of the kin of the victims of the building collapse here belonging to his state.

Mallik, who arrived here from Bubaneshwar, told reporters that he would call on the survivors hailing from Odisha at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College Hospital here.

He lauded the efforts of Tamil Nadu government in rescue efforts.

Meanwhile, officials said the death toll in the collapse of the under-construction 11-storeyed building near suburban Porur touched 42.

A total of 69 persons have been pulled out dead or alive from under the debris of the collapsed structure by rescue personnel since Saturday when the mishap had occurred.
 

According to official figures, four women and a man from Odisha died in the mishap while three were injured.
