The Odisha government today offered 80 acres of land near Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, for setting up the proposed National Institute of New Energy and Innovation here.

"I request you for an early announcement of setting up the National Institute of New Energy and Innovation (NINEI) at Bhubaneswar and allocate necessary funds for the purpose to kick start the construction activities at the earliest," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Welcoming the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's proposal to establish the NINEI at Bhubaneswar, Patnaik said Odisha stands committed to extend all required support like allocation of land, free of cost, and other support that may be required to establish such an institute of national repute.

"I am happy to inform you that my government has taken expeditious steps to allot around 80 acres of land near IIT, Bhubaneswar for the National Institute of New Energy and Innovation," Patnaik said today.

The Chief Minister said the state government has taken several initiatives keeping in tune with the national development goal to promote the renewable energy sector in Odisha.
