Odisha: Over 90K 'ineligible' families surrendered ration

The Odisha government today said as many as 91,431 "ineligible" families have surrendered their ration cards issued under National Food Security Act even as 20,259 families have been added in the list of beneficiaries.

"We call upon all the ineligible families to surrender their ration cards by August 15. They should consider that eligible families should get the ration as per NFSA," Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma told reporters here.

He said the highest number of 18,384 families have surrendered their ration cards in Khurda district comprising Bhubaneswar followed by 9,951 families in Bolangir district.

Stating that 19,431 families who had availed ration cards fraudulently or due to some mistake, the minister said they were taking rations for 3,28,549 persons.
 

He said a total 72,766 persons would now be benefited after issuance of new ration cards to 20,259 families.
