Congress and BJP in Odisha today demanded legal proceedings against Kendrapara MLA Kishore Tarai, accusing him of engineering the withdrawal of two women candidates from the panchayat elections even as the ruling party lawmaker said his wife will resign soon.

The opposition has been targeting Tarai ever since allegations were made that he manipulated the victory of his wife Babita Tarai as a panchayat samiti member of Penthapal gram panchayat.

The candidature of two other women candidates contesting the elections against Tarai's wife were withdrawan without their knowledge.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has removed Pattamundai BDO from the election process after the two women candidates alleged that their nomination papers were withdrawn without their knowledge.

Tarai said, "As allegations have been made on the candidature of Babita Tarai, my wife will resign from her post on moral ground. She will contest the elections again."

The opposition parties have, in the mean time, intensified their protest against the Kendrapara legislator.

While the Congress has demanded resignation of the MLA and a civil suit against him for allegedly using the BDO to taper the election process, the BJP has brought allegations of criminal conspiracy against Tarai.

"The MLA should be booked under section 120 of IPC for conspiraing to fradulently withdraw candidature of two other women conesting against his wife," said OPCC president Prasad Harichandan.

He also demanded the arrest of the BDO for causing fraud in the election process.
