Odisha Police has seized 59 illegal arms and weapons and executed 2,985 non-bailable warrants (NBW) as part of its preparedness for the upcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections, officials said Friday.
This was revealed at the review meeting chaired by Director General of Police, R P Sharma on Thursday. Sharma asked the SPs of all police districts to make adequate preparation well ahead of time and leave no stones unturned for an incident free election.
"It may be a tough job, but Odisha Police will overcome this herculean task with the support of its team of efficient, effective and experienced officers," Sharma told the SPs through video conferencing.
Senior police officers including Director Intelligence, ADGP Crime, Director SCRB, ADGP (L&O), ADGP (Operation), IGP (Personnel), IGP (Crime), IGP (Hdqrs) were present in the meeting
As the state goes to simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls on April 11, 18, 23 and 29, Sharma said a huge preparation is needed to ensure a free, fair, transparent and impartial election.
He said the police should also ensure proper enforcement of model code of conduct, guidelines for the police arrangement and security arrangements including the visit of VIPs and VVIPs.
The DGP also discussed in detail on the preparation of district deployment plan of police personnel as per guide lines.
Sharma asked SPs to be vigilant and pro-active to ensure conduct of non-violent and incident free elections, adequate sensitisation of sub-ordinate staff and vigilant and extra careful for social media.
He said mobile parties, flying squads and static surveillance team to be formed and kept in readiness well ahead of time and control room to function round the clock.
