Odisha Police felicitates inspector & spl public prosecutor

A day after a court in Jagatsinghpur district sentenced a man to capital punishment after convicting him for rape and murder of a minor girl, Odisha Police felicitated a police officer and the special public prosecutor of the case for their good work.

Odisha Police on Wednesday felicitated special public prosecutor of Jagatsinghpur, Siba Prasad Majhi and Inspector- in-charge (IIC) of Erasama police station, Bichitrananda Sethi.

The officer and lawyer were felicitated to boost the morale of the people engaged in delivering justice to the people, DGP B K Sharma said after felicitating the duo.

"It was nice teamwork and investigation by the investigating officer and special PP," the DGP said while appreciating the effort of Sethi and Majhi.

 

On March 21, 2018, a minor girl was raped and murdered in a place under the jurisdiction of Erasama police station of Jagatsinghpur district.

Sethi had registered the case under various sections of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act and took up investigation.

The IIC took help of the services of a dog squad and collected material evidence through a scientific team.

The accused Laba alias Kalia Mana was arrested and forwarded to court two days after the rape and murder.

Mana was charge-sheeted within 60 days of the incident on May 21, 2018, under charges of rape, murder and offence under POCSO Act.

Majhi took up the case before Additional Session Judge-cum-special Judge, Jagatsinghpur. The judge convicted Mana and sentenced him to capital punishment on Tuesday.
