Odisha priest made auxiliary bishop of Ranchi Archdiocese

A Catholic priest from Sundargarh district in Odisha has been appointed by Vatican to be the new Auxiliary Bishop of Ranchi Archdiocese.

The new appointment was announced in Vatican today and simultaneously made public at the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See to India, which is a diplomatic mission Vatican state to India.

A release from the Archbishop's office here said Father Telephore Bilung would assist Cardinal Telesphore P Toppo, Archbishop of Ranchi.

This is the first time that a Catholic priest from Odisha is appointed bishop in Jharkhand.

Father Telephore Bilung is a member of an international Catholic religious order called Society of Divine Word (SVD). Currently he was the provincial superior or head of SVD Eastern Indian province, the release added.
