Odisha reels under intense cold, Phulbani coldest at 4.8 deg C

Most parts of Odisha today reeled under intense cold wave conditions as the mercury dropped to 4.8 degrees Celsius at Phulbani in Kandhamal district, making it the coldest place in the state and disrupting normal life.

While Phulbani recorded 4.8 degrees Celsius as against yesterday's 5 degrees Celsius, minimum temperature in the picturesque Daringibadi in Kandhamal district stood at 7.2 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological centre said.

Most parts of the state reeled under intense cold as the minimum temperature fell below 10 degrees Celsius in at least nine places, MeT officials said, adding cold wave conditions are likely to continue in Odisha for sometime.
 

While the minimum temperature stood at 7 degrees Celsius at Bhawanipatna, it was 7.5 degrees Celsius at Sambalpur and Hirakud, 7.6 degrees Celsius at Angul, 8 degrees Celsius at Sundargarh, 8.3 degrees Celsius at Jharsuguda and 9 degrees Celsius at Koraput, the MeT office said.

The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum of 12.3 degrees Celsius, it said.

Apart from Phulbani town and Daringibadi in Kandhamal, cold wave conditions continued to sweep elsewhere in the district disrupting normal life in G Udayagiri, Balliguda, Kotagarh and Tumudibandha blocks.
