Odisha sunstroke toll mounts to 12, temperature dips

The death toll due to sunstroke mounted to 12 today with two fresh deaths reported in Odisha despite a significant dip in day temperature, official sources said.

The two fresh deaths were reported from Angul and Dhenkanal districts, according to the office of the special relief commissioner (SRC) here. The commissioner's office has so far received 46 complaints of deaths due to sunstroke. However,the district collectors have so far confirmed 12 deaths due to sunstroke.

While the highest three deaths have been confirmed in Mayurbhanj district, one death each was reported from Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Balangir, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Khurda districts, they said.
 

Even as the temperature registered a dip and some parts of the state received light rain yesterday, the Meteorological department has warned that the temperature may increase after May 8.

Apart from Bhawanipatna (41.2 Degree C) and Titlagarh (40.5 degree C), all other places in the state recorded temperature below 40 degree C.
