In a bid to tide over drinking water crisis in rural areas in Ganjam, Odisha government will instal an additional 1000 tube-wells in the current year in the district.

"The proposed new tube-wells will somehow mitigate the drinking water crisis in the rural areas in the district", said Executive Engineer, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department, Sitaram Panda.

The tube-wells would be installed in water scarcity pockets in the villages and the engineers were in the process of identifying the scarcity areas.

"Our thrust is to identify the water scarcity pockets and install the tube-wells", said Panda.

Around 21,400 tube-wells are presently in operating condition in the district, official sources said here.

However, people in several villages had complained that installation of tube-wells had not solved the problem in their areas as they yielded low water.
