A day after Odisha government sought the Centre's nod for formation of a tribunal to resolve Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattishgarh, the ruling BJD today said it may move the Supreme Court if there is delay in formation of the panel.
"If the Centre does not accept the proposal, then we will move the Supreme Court on this matter," ruling BJD spokesman P K Deb said.
As per the law, an aggrieved party may file petition before the Water Resources ministry.

There will be a certain time frame for the Centre to decide whether it accepts the state government's proposal for formation of a tribunal or not.
Deb said the state government has apprised the ministry to take necessary step by directing the Chhattisgarh government to stop the ongoing project on upstream of river Mahanadi with immediate effect.
He also said that the state may also move the National Green Tribunal (NGT) with regard to the environmental impact on the flora and fauna of the state due to construction of these projects on upper Mahanadi.
