Ahead of the monsoon season, the Odisha government today directed all its departments to set up control rooms as precautionary measures to counter a possible flood situation in the state.

"We have asked all departments to run control rooms till November 30 keeping an eye on possible floods," special relief commissioner (SRC) P K Mohapatra told reporters after presiding over a meeting on the state government's preparedness on possible floods.

All the district collectors have already been instructed to keep provisions ready for the possible floods, Mohapatra said, adding that the district authorities were asked to float tenders for the procurement of food items for the eventuality.

The water resources department has informed that they have repaired 397 breaches on river banks created during the last year's flood.

"The department has assured to repair three other breaches by June 15," he said.

Representatives of health and family welfare, women and child development (WCD), panchayati raj, rural development and all other departments attended the meeting apart from the NDRF officials, Odisha Police and the IMD.
