Odisha government today decided to put all new residential plots in the state capital on auction and stop direct allotment of land to individuals.
This was part of the state government's Land Grant Policy, 2015, approved at the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.
Claiming that the policy will be helpful for development of the capital city, Chief Secretary G C Pati said allotments would be made in favour of BDA (Bhubaneswar Development Authority), BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) and cooperative societies.
"There will be hardly any direct allotment to individuals from the General Administrative Department," Pati said adding that the Land Grant Policy was an effort to ensure comprehensive development of the capital city by encouraging orderly growth of residential, commercial, institutional areas and development of essential infrastructure.
Patti said in view of scarcity of government land, there was a need for balancing of interests of different organizations and individuals keeping the public interest in view. So the new Land Grant Policy would go a long way in fulfilling the interest of the state and general public, he said.
The policy would look into the land required for housing to statutory authorities like Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Odisha State Housing Board, and other similar bodies.
Land carved out into suitable sizes in capital city for residential, commercial and institutional purposes would be granted through auction to be conducted by BDA.
