Odisha government will set up 335 fire stations across the state in a phased manner and 53 such stations would be established 'soon', Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said today.

"The state government has been making efforts to make fire service more accessible to the villages and also to reduce the response time in case of any mishap," Patnaik said.

"It has been decided to set up 335 fire stations with an objective to open at least one fire station in each block of our state," he said while addressing a seminar on fire safety measures in high-rise buildings.

He said 53 fire stations will be added soon to the existing 232 fire stations in the state.

Stating that 1,042 firemen drivers have been recently recruited to meet the additional man power requirement, Patnaik said.

The chief minister said the government would modify the rules under the Odisha Fire Service Act for ensuring adequate precautionary measures by owners and occupants of high rise buildings to prevent fire mishaps.
