Odisha government today decided to undertake a joint maritime exercise on February 24, as they get ready to install two surveillance radars on the state's coastline.
The decision was taken at a high level meeting presided by state Home Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy, which saw personnel of Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy and senior state police officers in attendance.
"Odisha is a coastal state with a 480 km of coastline. Considering this, we will have to remain completely prepared to counter any danger. Therefore, marine security exercises are conducted along the state coast twice a year," Tripathy said.
He said that the personnel from Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Marine Police, Customs and different departments of the state government would participate in the exercise to check preparedness for any intrusion by enemies.
"Since we have certain vital installations in the state, Odisha needs to be extra vigilant towards any kind of danger," Tripathy said, adding that last year's exercise was a success.
The state government has a proposal to install one surveillance radar each at Puri and Konark.
