Barring the winner and her nearest rival, all other candidates in the Dholpur Assembly bypoll, the result of which was declared today, forfeited their security deposits.

BJP's Shobha Rani Kushwah defeated her nearest rival Congress' Banwari Lal Sharma, with a record margin of 38,673 votes. Of the total 1,47,298 votes cast, the BJP candidate secured 91,548 votes while Sharma got 52,875 votes.

As many as 952 voters preferred NOTA.

Of the 15 candidates in the fray, 12 were independents. The BJP's candidate was Shobha Rani, the Congress' was Banwari Lal Sharma and the SP had fielded Banvari Lal Sharma.

Barring the BJP and the Congress candidates, security of all other candidates was forfeited, district election officer Suchi Tyagi said.

Independent candidate Deshraj Updahyay secured the lowest, only 70 votes.

The bypoll was necessitated as B L Kushwah had lost his membership of the Assembly after he was convicted and awarded life imprisonment in a murder case in December last year.
