Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today advocated for registration of criminal cases against those posting derogatory remarks or offensive material pertaining religious personalities on social media.
Badal said action would be initiated against the offenders under the provisions of IT Act and other cyber laws.
"Posting of objectionable material and distorted pictures about any religion or religious personalities on social networking websites will not be tolerated at any cost and those found guilty will be dealt with strictly," he said.

The deputy chief minister, who also holds the Home Department portfolio, said he has directed DGP Punjab and Commissioners of Police and SSPs to take prompt action in such cases.
Badal, who offered floral tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar in Ludhiana on the occasion of his death anniversary, said the SAD-BJP government is committed for the all round development and welfare of deprived classes as envisioned by Ambedkar.
Punjab government was contemplating on setting up a world class educational institute in the state dedicated to Ambedkar, he said, adding that the construction work for the late leader's memorial on Ludhiana-Delhi National Highway has begun.
