Senior Congress leader A K Antony today questioned the tendency of spending huge money by various religious institutions for building posh places of worship in Kerala.
He said the money received in the form of offerings and donations in such places should be used for the purpose of helping the poor and needy.
"Places of worship in Kerala is filled with huge money. This money is not spent for useful purposes. There is no need for air conditioned places of worship in the state," the former defence minister said at a function.

The former chief minister lamented that the money deposited in various places of worship controlled by both majority and minority communities in the state were not being spent for useful purposes.
Criticising the trend of spending crores of rupees for rebuilding places of worship in the state, Antony said such wealth should be used for charitable works.
