The move came over a fortnight after the Commission directed the returning officer to probe allegations levelled by Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy against the Congress general Secretary.
Additional District Magistrate (finance/revenue) Arvind Pandey said, he has sought certain guidelines from the EC in connection with the ongoing probe but declined to elaborate on them.
"I am not authorised to speak to the media, though, after receiving the guidelines from the EC, the report would be sent forward," Pandey said.
The EC had on November 15 sent a letter to Chief Electoral Officer of UP, citing a June 2004 letter, which said the returning officer is the competent authority to look into such complaints.
"Since the affidavit is filed before the returning officer, in view of the provisions of Section 195 of CrPC, it is the returning officer concerned, who is the competent authority to consider any complaint regarding false statement in the affidavit...," the EC letter had said.
Swamy had last month alleged that Rahul did not show shares owned by him in Associated Journals which ran the now-defunct National Herald newspaper in the affidavit he filed during Lok Sabha elections in 2009.
