Officer who probed coal scam among 24 CBI personnel decorated

The officer who initiated probe into the coal scam is among 24 CBI investigators awarded President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day.

M M Oberoi, now posted as Director, Interpol Cyber Crime Directorate in Singapore, initiated probe into the coal scam while he was posted at the agency headquarters.

The AGMUT cadre officer of 1992 batch was at the helm of affairs in several other cases including the teachers' recruitment scam in Haryana in which former Chief Minister of the state Om Prakash Chautala was convicted.

Oberoi has been awarded President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
 

Among other officers who have been awarded the coveted medal are Ashok Babu, SP, STF, Desh Deepak, SP, ACB, Syed Bazlullah, Additional SP, ACB, Ghanshyam Rai, Additional SP, Economic Offences, A J Ramalingam, DSP, ACB and Lakshman Tripathy, Sub-Inspector, ACB.

Eighteen other officers have been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service by the President including U K Goswami, SP, Banking, Securities and Fraud Cell (BS and FC), Additional SPs Anil Singh, ACB, Biswajit Das, (BS and FC), Deputy SPs Shrikrishan, IPCC, Sham Dutt, Economic Offences Wing, Satya Narayan Jat, Special Unit, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, ACB, Thiyagarajan Sridharan, ACB, Nagpur.

Inspectors R P Sharma, ACB, Prakash Shivram Surve, ACB, Dewinder Singh, SCB, Swapan Kumar Murmu, ACB, Sub-Inspectors Suresh Chand, Anti-Corruption Unit, Rajendra Ganpat Chavan, SI, BS and FC, Head Constabls Dinesh Chander Negi, ACB, Tadiparthy Subbareddy, ACB, and Constable Ravi Lal, CBI (HQ), have also been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service by the President.
