An assistant in the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Medininagar in Palamau district, was arrested today on charges of demanding bribe from a Public Distribution System (PDS), official sources said.

Sushil Kumar Tiwary, an assistant in the SDM office, was arrested on charges of demanding bribe to renew the registration of PDS shop owner, Chitaranjan Prasad, of Jaitha village under Lesligunj block of the district, said the Deputy Commissioner of Palamau, Kripanand Jha.

A probe was conducted and it found Tiwary guilty of demanding bribe for renewing the PDS registration, he said.

Tiwary had demanded Rs 13,000 for the job and already received Rs 2,000, Jha said adding the probe was ordered after Prasad's wife Sanju Devi lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner.

In the probe, Jha said it was found that Tiwary had deliberately delayed the renewal of Prasad's registration.
