Election officials today seized 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a person near here.
The jewellery was seized as the person could not provide a receipt, officials said.
The man was riding a two-wheeler and the gold jewellery, comprising a chain and ear rings, was found in a small box attached to it.
He said he was an employee at a local jewellery shop but could not provide a receipt following which the ornaments were seized, officials said.
They said the jewellery would be deposited at the Erode Treasury.

Meanwhile, election officials seized 200 synthetic
polyester sarees being transported in a two-wheeler without any proper documents to Erode from Aataiyampatty in Veerapandi assembly segment.
Officials also seized 37beer bottles and Rs one lakh, police said.
