In an effort to better understand problems of the people, government officials will spend a night in 350 villages of the district here today.
The officials, including Magistrates and Additional District Magistrates, will stay in schools and government buildings and listen to the problems of the villagers during a 'chaupal' (meeting) in the night, said District Magistrate Roshan Jacob.
Local accountants have been listening to the problems of the people in these villages since morning today and the issues will be put before the officials in the night, he said.

The officials will try to solve the problems at the 'chaupal' itself, but if any issue requires attention at a higher level, it will be taken to the district headquarters, he said.
During the meeting, officials will read out documents related to land and crop holdings to farmers and objections, if any, will be heard.
Removal of encroachments on ponds and grazing lands will also be discussed and verification of pension beneficiaries and ration card holders will be done, the DM said.
