OHRC grants compensation to differently-abled person

The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) today directed the Railways to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 to a differently-abled person who was allegedly assaulted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel.

Suresh Rao alias Lengda alias Chhota, a resident of Chanmari village of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, was allegedly assaulted by the RPF personnel at Balasore railway station on January 3.

OHRC acting chairperson Justice B K Mishra asked the chairman of Railway Board, general manager of South Eastern Railway and IG-cum-Chief Security Commissioner, RPF, South Eastern Railway, to comply with the order within three months.

Justice Mishra issued the order while considering a petition filed by advocate and human rights activist Prabir Das.
