Government buildings which were more than 50 years old and in a dilapidated condition would be demolished after inspection shortly, Tamil Nadu Minister O S Manian said today.

He said this after a review meeting held here in the wake of the death of eight state transport corporation employees after a workshop building collapsed in Porayar in the district on Friday last.

Workers would also be asked to leave such buildings, the Handlooms Minister told reporters adding that old buildings would be demolished and new ones would replace them.

He appealed to government employees not to avail leave and work for the public during the monsoon season.

Manian also assured that encroachments in water bodies in the district would be removed.
