Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone, who has previously documented former Cuban leader Fidel Castro and late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, has expressed a desire to make a documentary about Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Stone is currently in Russia to finalise a documentary on US National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden, who was given a three-year residency permit in the country.

"I would interview (Putin) to show the point of view that Americans don't want to hear about," Stone told RIA-Novosti news agency.

The news agency said that Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed that the Kremlin "was aware of Stone's desire to make a film," but didn't comment further.

Stone is busy shaping his film 'The Snowden Files', which is expected to begin shooting by early next year.
