Olympic Day Run at Vizag sets new record

Organisers of 'Olympic Day Run' here have claimed that the event, organised on June 23 this year, has entered the Guinness' Book of World Records with a record number of participants.

As many as 86,549 people participated in the 5-km run organised by Visakhapatnam District Olympic Association, making it the biggest Olympic Day Run in the world ever, said its president T Harsha Vardhan Prasad today.

Olympic Day Runs are being held worldwide since 1987, to commemorate the establishment of International Olympic Committee on June 23, 1894.

Previous record was held by a 1988 run in Washington DC in which 85,976 people participated, Prasad said.
