Sufism is not a religion rather it is an exalted state of mind where love and peace overflow, says veteran actor Om Puri.

Puri, who was addressing the delegates on the concluding day of three- day SAARC Sufi festival here, said that Sufism is a great binding force.

The 64-year-old actor said the notion of meeting together using the SAARC platform was a great idea and the media of the SAARC countries can play a key role in bringing the people of the member SAARC nations closer.

He stressed upon the need of improving relationship and stronger ties and business relations between India and Pakistan.

Puri narrated his experience of Pakistan which he visited twice and how friendly people received him there.

"We are culturally stronger and the similarity of culture should be used as a plank to build relationship of love and respect for each other. But there is a definite problem in understanding the religion of each other that often causes misunderstanding and leads to chaotic situation," he said.

Once the people of India and Pakistan understand the religions of the two countries, he said, a lot of problems particularly those relating to terrorism would be solved.
