Omani singer Haitham Rafi Friday said he was very eager to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had heaped praise on him for his rendition of Mahatma Gandhis favourite song last year.

Rafi had sung Mahatma Gandhis favourite bhajan (devotional song) 'Vaishnav Jan To' as a tribute ahead of the Father of the Nation's 150th birth anniversary, which was marked by the Indian community in Oman on October 2.

Modi had tweeted his admiration of Rafis gesture.

Talking to PTI here, Rafi said, "I became emotional when he (Modi) tweeted his admiration for my gesture".

The Omani singer said he was very eager to meet the prime minister.

Rafi is in the city to again sing the popular bhajan during the flagging off ceremony of the 8th edition of the Vadodara International Marathon on January 6.

During his stay in Gujarat, Rafi will visit the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, a place closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi, and also the Statue of Unity near Kevadiya, about 90km from Vadodara.
