Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tonight joined the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials in cleaning the flood-hit areas of the city as part of the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'.

Wielding brooms, Omar and SMC commissioner G N Qasba swept the road in Weir Nagar, one of the worst hit areas in the recent flood.

Omar's joining the clean India campaign came a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Srinagar on the occasion of Diwali to meet the flood affected people. Modi had launched the campaign in Delhi on October 2.

Omar had earlier thanked Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for nominating him to the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'.

"Thanks for the nomination @BeingSalmanKhan. Watch this space for my contribution and the names of the 9 (persons) I will have to nominate," Omar wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Besides nominating all his Facebook fans and Twitter followers, Khan had nominated Omar, Aamir Khan, Azim Premji, Chanda Kochhar, Pradeep Dhoot, Rajat Sharma, Rajinikanth and Vineet Jain for the campaign.

The Bollywood superstar was among the people nominated by the Prime Minister at the launch of the campaign on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2).
