"After putting in place required measures to improve the functioning of G B Pant Children's Hospital Srinagar, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah this morning paid a surprise visit to the hospital and inspected its various units," an official spokesman said.
The Chief Minister said the government has already taken decisions regarding administration, staffing, equipment, sanitation, hygiene and other aspects relating to the improvement in the functioning of the hospital.
"There is scope for improvement in the functioning and maintenance of hospital," he said.
Omar said the measures initiated by the government and decisions taken in this regard would show visible improvement in the functioning of the hospital within a week's time.
He underlined the importance of public support in maintaining the hygiene and sanitation of the hospital besides improving the discipline.
"While government would take all measures in upgrading the functioning of the hospital and improving its maintenance, the attendants with the patients and visitors visiting the hospital should cooperate fully in this task," he said.

The Chief Minister said necessary checks have been put in place for the monitoring of the hospital and the Director SKIMS would continue to visit this hospital and monitor its functioning.
He said the government would not allow any further deterioration in the situation. Improvement and upgradation of the hospital is our concentrated focus, he added.
The government appointed Director SKIMS Showkat Ahmad Zargar as inquiry officer following a huge public outcry against the high mortality rate of the infants at the hospital.
In his preliminary report, Zargar had pointed out to many deficiencies in the hospital administration. The Medical Superintendent Javed Chaudhury was transferred and attached to Medical Education department on the basis of the report submitted by Director SKIMS.
