Omar okays compensation hike for victims of animal attacks

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today approved the enhanced compensation for human victims of attacks by animals.

Omar cleared the enhancement of the compensation to Rs 3 lakh in case of loss of human life in an animal attack, an official spokesman said after a meeting of the State Board for Wildlife chaired by the Chief Minister.

As per the enhanced rates, victims can now get up to Rs 90,000 as compensation for grievous injury and Rs 15,000 for minor injuries, he said.

The Chief Minister, while addressing the meeting, called for preserving and protecting the rich fauna.
 

Omar asked the wildlife department to prepare a comprehensive summary for paying compensation to affected breeders on account of loss of animals in animal-human conflicts.
