Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would get more respect if he admitted that his religious beliefs prevented him from attending Iftar parties.
"Why can't the PM just say that his religious beliefs preclude him from attending an Iftar party? I'd have far more respect for honesty," Omar posted on micro-blogging site Twitter yesterday.
Omar was commenting on Modi skipping the Iftar party hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee last evening.
The prime minister had not attended President's Iftar party last year too.
