On New Year's Eve, 2 held with Rs 3 cr worth of ephedrine

Two persons were arrested Monday with ephedrine worth Rs 3.04 crore at Amboli in the metropolis' western suburbs, police said, adding that it was brought for peddling in New Year parties.

An official identified the two as Mohammed Ismail Gulam Hussain (45) and Dayanand Manik Muddanar (32), both of whom were arrested around 2:40am Monday in a trap laid on Agarwal street in Andheri's Amboli area.

A team of Amboli police led by inspector Daya Nayak got a specific tip off about two persons from Hyderabad coming to distribute ephedrine, a medication and stimulant, he said.

He said the duo had confessed that the contraband was for supply at New Year parties in the city.

 

The official added that a concerted drive was underway to nab drug peddlers in view of New Year festivities.
