One arrested for possessing animal parts for sale

A man was today arrested after forest officials seized large quantity of animal parts such as horns and hide from his house at Pollachi near here.

Acting on a tip off that Gunaseelan had stored parts of different kinds of animal for sale, officials from Annamalai Tiger Reserve led by its Field Director Rajiv K Srivatsava raided the house, police said.

They found five big tusks, thirteen pieces of tusks and 100 gram of ivory powder, processed skin and head of a leopard, seven deer horns, one tiger hide and two tiger teeth and a few other items, they said.
 

A case under Wildlife Protection Act had been registered against him and further interrogation was on to find out the source of supply and the prospective customers, police added.
