One arrested for smuggling panther skin

A team of Wildlife Department today arrested one person from Haryana-Himachal Pradesh border and recovered two panther skins from his possession.

An official spokesman said the Wildlife Inspector of Kalesar in district Yamunnagar had received information that a person was bringing two panther skins from Himachal Pradesh.

Acting swiftly, the team set up check posts in Morni and other areas of Haryana, adjoining Himachal Pradesh, to nab the smuggler.

During checking near village Barun on the Haryana- Himachal border, a person coming from village Sarah of Himachal Pradesh was caught with two bags containing panther skins, he said.

The accused was identified as Chaman Lal, a resident of village Chakli, district Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh, he said.
 

A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act-1972.

The accused was produced in Special Environment Court, Kurukshetra today which sent him to 14 days' police custody, the spokesman added.
