One person was arrested for spreading rumours on social media about the death of a person due to coronavirus in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior government official said on Thursday.

District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kishtwar, Rajinder Singh Tara advised people not to pay heed to false information.

The district officer clarified that the death was not due to coronavirus, but other reasons.

The person, hailing from Palmard village of Kishtwar, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jammu, he said.

He said police is identifying the other people involved in spreading the rumour on social media.

The DDC said the district administration has taken various preventive steps for the safety of the people and check the spread of the deadly coronavirus infection.

The district administration had already imposed prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more persons and restricted movement of public transport in certain areas.
