One arrested in case of attack on religious group

Police have arrested an accused in connection with an attack on members of a religious community at Kandhla in neighbouring Shamli district.

Sunil has been arrested while a search is underway for his two associates, Sanni and Titu, Baghpat SP Sharad Sachan said today.

The SP said Sunil, a resident of Bawli village in Baghpat district, has confessed to the crime.

According to police, members of the community were thrashed on May 1 by five youths on board a Delhi-Kandhla train.

After the incident, angry protesters from the community gheraoed the Kandhla police station and pelted stones besides setting some vehicles on fire on May 2.
 

Police have registered several cases in connection with the case.
