One person has been arrested in connection with last week's violence in Aligarh Muslim University, police said today.
Mohd Zoraiz, a research scholar in AMU's Department of Law, was nabbed by Special Investigation Team of the state police from Dhorra locality and sent to jail late last night after being produced at the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate.
He had faced disciplinary action by AMU authorities in earlier cases of campus violence as well.

"This is our first breakthrough and in the next few days we are expecting further success," he said.
A total of 15 FIRs have been filed in connection with the violence. Eight persons had been named in the killing of Mahtab, a former AMU student.
Meanwhile, 12 students, including Zoraiz, were suspended late last night from the rolls of the university pending inquiry. The university campus has been placed out of bounds for them, according to an official notification by the AMU authorities.
The other suspended students include Md Mohsin Iqbal, pursuing MA, Faheem Akhtar, PhD, Azhar Amani Vazir, BSW, Mohammad Sadiq, BE (Civil), Mohd Sohaib, B.Com, Mohd Amir Khan, B.Com, Mohd Amir Khan alias Chaudhary, MA, Mohd Khalid Ali, BALLB, Zaidul Islam Sherwani, BALLB, Shahzaman Khan alias Shaikhu, PhD and Amir Khan, M.Com.
Search operations were also carried out by the AMU authorities with help of police in different hostels of Ross Masood hall in the university last night.
