One arrested in cricket betting case

The Crime Branch of Mumbai police today arrested a man in connection with a cricket betting racket which was busted in August this year.

Amit Gill, the accused, was arrested by the sleuths of Unit-9 of the Crime Branch and produced before a court which sent him in police custody till October 3, an official said.

Gill, who is related to a Bollywood actor, used to place big bets on cricket matches, said the official.

"So far we have arrested eight persons in the case," said Nisar Tamboli, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).

On August 24, Crime Branch officials had raided a flat in D N Nagar in suburban Andheri and arrested seven persons for taking bets on India-Sri Lanka cricket series.
 

Probe revealed that two members of this betting syndicate who were software experts had developed a software to streamline the betting operation.
