Tagyo Sonam was arrested from Polo Colony at Naharlagun near here yesterday during raids, Capital Complex SP Surinder Kumar said.

Sonam was sent to 14 days police custody by a local court and being interrogated on whereabouts of the other persons involved in the incident engineered allegedly by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (APPTF) on November 9.

Kumar, meanwhile, in a letter to the deputy commissioner requested him to cancel the registration of the APPTF and further requested the Gauhati High Court and other courts in the state not to entertain any anticipatory bail petitions by any of the accused involved in the incident.

Supporters of APPTF assaulted Tapan Kumar Das, the associate editor of the first English paper and vandalised his office after an altercation over publication of a news item.

The members of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist and Arunachal Press Club had shut down all newspaper offices including electronic media offices during the last two days as a token of protest.
