A truck driver was charred to death after his speedy vehicle rammed into a stationary bus at the Urse toll plaza on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway today, police said.
According to Talegaon Dabhade police, the bus, which was carrying 45 passengers from Mumbai to Karnataka, halted on the roadside near toll plaza for repairing of its air-conditioner.
The truck collided with the bus, breaking the air-conditioning plant fitted at the back of the passenger vehicle, igniting a huge fire, they said.
Both the vehicles were completely damaged in the fire and the truck driver was charred to death.
Due to immense damage caused to truck by fire, the police could not establish the identity of the driver as well as its registration number.
However, there were no other casualties. Only a few passengers inside the bus sustained minor injuries, police said.
The passengers were immediately accommodated into an alternative bus to Karnataka, police said.
