One person was killed today, 13 were hospitalised and one woman was missing after a large explosion caused a partial collapse of a Vienna apartment building, Austrian emergency services said.
A 19-year-old man died shortly after being pulled from the rubble around five hours after the still-unexplained blast, while a 50-year-old woman was still unaccounted for, police spokeswoman Adina Mircioane said.
"The fire brigade is also digging out a second person, but we do not yet know who they are, whether they are male or female," she said. One of the 13 people taken to hospital was seriously injured, she added.
"There was a very strong pressure wave. What caused this we don't yet know," fire brigade spokesman Gerald Schimpf told the Austria Press Agency.
