One person died and 50 others were injured, 12 of them seriously, when a truck carrying a marriage party met with an accident at Number 2 Golai under Digboi police station in Assam's Tinsukia district tonight, a police officer said.
The accident occurred at around 7.15 PM when the truck turned turtle while travelling from Margherita to Pangeree, district Superintendent of Police A P Tiwari said.
One of the injured, identified as Nicholas Dang, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, he said.
25 of the injured were referred to Tinsukia Civil Hospital, while seven of them were shifted to Assam Medical College in neighbouring Dibrugarh district, the SP said.
All the injured were undergoing treatment, Tiwari said adding, the marriage party was from the Adivasi community of Pengaree tea estate.
